On June 8th, 2019 Happy50Plus held a Dementia Awareness conference at the Los Angeles Chinese Cultural Center.

What would you do if your spouse suddenly lost his or her memories? Would you know how best to cope with this very real possibility? After many years in the workplace, Alice Wu , wife of Mr. Wu Tsunchin, a celebrity in the southern California Chinese American community, suddenly lost her cognitive abilities “I have not been able to accept this from the beginning, but I have tried gradually to understand my wife’s condition and learn how to take care of her for the past eleven years,” Wu Tsunchin said.

Wu spoke at Happy50Plus’s June 8th event: “When Memories Fade, Love Remains…” The dementia awareness conference combined informational and resource workshops, and personal experiences of taking care of a loved one with dementia. This event was deeply moving and informative.

Mr. Wu Tsunchin is currently the president of the North American Chinese Writers’ Association, the vice-president and editor-in-chief of China Business World magazine, as well as the author of numerous books and articles. Formerly, Wu was the president of the Southern California Chinese Writing Association, and president of the National Taiwan University Alumni Association in Southern California. He was also the president of the Lions Club of San Marino, USA.

The Happy50Plus “When Memories Fade, Love Remains…” Dementia Awareness conference, was scheduled for June 8, 2019 (Saturday) afternoon 2:00-4:30, at the Los Angeles Overseas Chinese Culture and Education Service Center Auditorium (9443 Telstar Ave., El Monte, CA91731). The content included family members of dementia patients sharing their journeys.

Alzheimer’s Association of Los Angeles shared their dementia-related community resources, insurance experts explained how to purchase the best long term care insurance with the least investment, and experts from UnitedHealthCare explained how

Medicare helps dementia patients. In addition, Happy50Plus covered “The three strategies to prevent or delay the loss of memory.”

Finally, a special appearance of the National University of Taiwan in Southern California alumni choir performed moving songs.

Admission to the “When Memories Fade, Love Remains…” Dementia Awareness Conference was free, and exquisite gifts from vendors and several cash gift cards were raffled off.
